Courageous Learning sits at the core of our values and is enacted by all of us at BIS. Together everyone in our community forms the hub of a very powerful learning community: we learn courageously from a continuum of members spanning our Board and Teaching Team, to parents and the youngest sibling who plays in our sandpit. Research shows that strong parent and community links are key for learning to flourish. We take this very seriously at BIS and we respect that everyone is on a journey of development.
At BIS this collective learning and growth takes place through:
Educator Team
Teachers, teacher aides, external teachers and sometimes even our admin staff, all work together to teach students as each of us holds an important role in a growing child’s learning about themselves and the community.
Parent Participation
Our parents choose the level of involvement they have in the Teams that help keep our school thriving. All our parents have required attendance at an annual Values session and are expected to attend the talks on the school philosophy and curriculum.
Student Participation
Our students are great leaders and civic members who learn how to be a leader from the time they start at BIS.
Governance
Parent and friends take on the challenge of developing and holding the Vision for BIS and ensuring that our decisions are consistent for a school growing into the future.
Community Supporters
BIS has been an active part of our local community throughout our history.
