From around 11 years old, children start to shift into the Rule Conformist Stage of their life. This stage heralds a shift from looking for direct rules and boundaries to searching for principles. The Rule Conformist learner is trying to fit into the peer groups and family groups that surround them. Our job as parents and educators is to learn how to best support them through this stage and provide them with the best opportunities to maintain a strong sense of connection with their communities and with their individuality. This stage can also be very challenging to the adults who are part of this process, as they need to model the principled life we want our children to exhibit.
